On the 8th, 9th and 10th March 2011 Highdown School and Sixth Form Centre became 1920’s New York as the Drama and Music department collaborated to produce this year’s KS3 musical production Bugsy Malone. With a talented cast, a wonderful orchestra, and some superb set pieces the audience were in for a treat. Over the past 7 weeks students from year 7, 8 and 9 worked intensively hard learning lines, songs and dances. Their commitment and enthusiasm made Bugsy Malone an excellent show to be part of. The cast played to sell out audiences and everyone left with a smile of their face and maybe some splurge!

1929, Gangster warfare in New York. Dandy Dan's hoodlums terrorise the district, exterminating undesirables with their new weapon - splurge guns. His rival is Fat Sam Stacetto, who runs the Grand Slam Speakeasy, but Fat Sam's gang still use old fashioned pies. Fat Sam engages the help of Bugsy Malone, a smooth city slicker who hitherto has been more occupied in sweet talking Blousey Brown, a would be girl singer. As the gangland warfare comes to a head, Dandy Dan prepares for a final showdown at Fat Sam's speakeasy, but Bugsy Malone has other plans... |
