Environmental Conference
ICC Model UN Climate Conference
A group of 20 Student Leadership Environmental Group members and Environmental Studies students participated in a Model UN Climate Change Conference on December 5th. The event was held in Reading Council Chambers and the Highdown teams made up the following countries; Kenya, South Africa, U.K, Japan and Bangladesh.
The event aimed to mirror the 17th UN Convention on Climate Change being held in Durban, South Africa in December.
Everyone involved was hugely impressed by the way in which the students conducted themselves during the debate, by the standard of the presentations and negotiations and by their thoughtfulness in the issues they raised on behalf of their countries. The students had obviously worked hard in preparation and grew in confidence as the afternoon progressed, which was great to see. The quality of their understanding and interest was very impressive.
The agreements and compromises reached through negotiation were something the real Durban conference could be proud of.
