What do I need to know or be able to do before taking the course?
 
This course provides students who have studied GCSE Design and Technology in Graphics, product design, or resistant materials, with the opportunity to continue with their studies, either exclusively in the subject they studied or as a combination of other areas. In other words, the course builds on, but does not depend on, the knowledge, understanding and skills of KS3 and KS4 Design and Technology. It is recommended that students have attained communication and literacy skills at a level equivalent to GCSE grade C in English and Mathematics and ideally Grade C or above in one of the above Design and Technology courses.
 

 

  
Structure
 
 
This course is designed to offer students the opportunity to study, propose and make prototype solutions closely linked to the real world of product manufacture in a range of materials. Students are encouraged to:
 
  • Initiate design solutions, develop, test and trial working models and prototypes.
  • Develop and sustain imagination, innovation and flair when working with concepts and materials.
  • Develop an understanding of contemporary design and technological practices and consider the uses and effects of new technologies and modern materials.
  • Develop thinking skills, financial capability, enterprise and entrepreneurial skills.
